Hardware trackers need a SIM with mobile data. Disable the PIN and make sure the SIM works in the country where the rental object is used.
For vehicles, prefer a wired tracker with backup battery. For trailers, boats, or equipment, use a battery tracker with enough runtime.
Install the tracker where it has power and GPS reception, but is protected from water, vibration, and accidental removal.
